Teacher conference
Today was Emma's teacher conference and I just had to brag on her a little bit. Emma is in the first grade and one of the youngest in the class, just making the cut-off for her grade by 6 days. She is the top reader in her class. She is currently reading on a second quarter Third grade level, and will continue to advance as the year goes on. Her teacher, Ms. Reed, said she is going to try and get her into a second grade class for reading, but they do it at different times. Emma also loves to write and excels in all subjects. We are so proud of her and need to tell her more. When I was sitting down the other day with her while she did her addition and subtraction problems she really surprised me. Sure, she made some mistakes but her critical thinking skills were way beyond her years. I had in my mind tricks and ways to help her, but she beat me to it!! Like it was 14-8, she would say, well I know 8 plus 6 is 14 so the answer is six! Or then she would go off on tangents about tens and less than, more than, etc.
Her teacher said she doesn't understand how Emma can't be gifted. They will reassess her after her Cogat test in second grade. I could care less about the label, I just want her to continue to be challenged and not get bored. I asked how Emma was behaving in school, and Ms. Reed said she is fine. All the girls love to talk, Emma included, but she has her sitting in the front next to a boy who is struggling, so she helps him and keeps herself out of trouble. :)
They are also gearing up for their first week long standardized testing, the CRCT. Emma is beyond excited. Like I put on my facebook, our conversation was as followed...
Emma- I can't wait for the CRCTs!
mommy- really, why?!
Emma- because it is a WHOLE book of problems, I love problems!
ok....
I seriously don't know where she came from. We are very blessed with all our girls.
Forgot to add- I was told with excitement from Emma this afternoon and then from Ms. Reed that she reads at 183 words a minute. I wasn't sure what to think about that? Ms. Reed then told me that the Goal is 40?!! And that she uses expression while reading and she had more time, but there were no more words on the page!

5 weeks old
Baby Quinn went for her 1 month check-up last Friday. (even though she was already 5 weeks old) She weighed a whopping 10 pounds 1 ounce! She was 21.5 inches long, so she has grown an inch and half while gaining 3 pounds! I could tell she was gaining good due to her chubby cheeks even with her constant spitting up. One day shy of 5 weeks old she graced Cece with her first smile. She was just waking up in her bassinet and I picked her up and Cece was right in her face as always, so Quinn smiled at her. Q then proceeded to screw up her face and fill her diaper, so it could have been gas, who knows. LOL She grins and laughs in her sleep all the time though. She has also make a couple cooing sounds. I just wish I could lay her down and let her kick and absorb the world around her. Cece won't let me do that, she is Constantly on top of her. Even now if I put her in her crib and attempt to do something around the house Cece is climbing on her crib and pulling down the bumper and pulling on Quinn's arms or legs.
I go for my 6 week check up tomorrow. I can't believe it has flown by so fast.
