Snow Days

Cece' first hot chocolate. What a face! We didn't have any marshmellows so the got some easy whip.

Last weekend we got over 4 inches of snow! We let the girls go out for a bit Friday night and Saturday morning to play. Cece definitely liked it more this year than last. They used the sleds that belonged to me and my brother when we were younger. Unfortunately the snow was too soft when we were out to build a snowman. The pictures are reverse order.

Quinn Grace's birth story

Quinn is three weeks old today! Time has flown by it seems, I can't believe I am just now getting around to posting her birth story. A little warning, it might be a little TMI (too much information) for some!

Monday morning 1/25 I noticed my contractions were getting more painful. I had been having braxton-hicks contractions for weeks/months so I didn't think too much of it. It was more of an annoyance. I remember posting on Facebook that I was getting tired of all the "practice" contractions. Anyway, I had a few throughout the night that woke me up every hour on the hour. I didn't get much sleep that night. (Clint was clueless though) The next morning I had bloody show and the contractions picked up to every 10 minutes and they were strong enough for me to stop what I was doing so I emailed Clint to kind of give him a heads up. He had already taken Wednesday off for a procedure he was having done. (a cervical epidural for the slipped disc in his neck) I wanted to make sure they wouldn't charge him if he had to miss his appointment, lol. Anyway, I told him she could come that night or wait until the next week for her planned C-section. You never really know with labor... I called the doctor and he said just wait and see, the contractions could go away all together. Oh, we had also already arranged for Abby to stay the night so she could watch the girls in the morning so I could take Clint to his appointment. I continued to have the mild contractions (they weren't that mild, but they weren't anything like the true labor contractions I remember having with the other girls-where you want to crawl out of your skin!) but they slowed down to like 4 an hour. So I took a bath, watched a movie with Abby and joined Clint in bed around 1 am. As I was laying down getting comfortable (as much as your can 38 weeks preggo) I felt a POP and then an absurd amount of gushing fluid came out and kept coming and coming... The sheer volume of it all freaked me out a bit, so Clint had to calm me down. I soaked through the down feather bed all the way to the mattress. So, I hop in the shower and Clint gets dressed and starts packing things up. We hadn't even installed the car seat base yet! Luckily, I had had the mother's intuition that day to stay home from errands that I had planned, to do laundry and finish packing my bag. After the shower I changed wet pants about three times before I just said screw it and grabbed another towel. We let Abby know what was going on and off we went to Athens to have a baby!
We got there around 1:45 and got checked in. They alerted the doctor on call (not my normal doc) and two hours later Miss Quinn made her debut. She was 7 pounds 11 ounces, 20 inches long and totally perfect. I had a spinal this time and was totally awake and alert the entire time! They brought her to me after assessing her and we went to recovery where she nursed at just a few minutes old. Afterward Clint went with her to the nursery to have her first bath. (She was a lot cheesier than the other girls were.) Since it was the middle of the night we didn't have any friends or family around to share the experience with, but it allowed us to get to know our new baby girl.
On the early morning of discharge the nursery nurse noticed Quinn was looking yellow so they did a bilirubin check on her. The day nurse came in and dropped a bomb on us. (we had just seen my ob and were making plans on going home) She said that Quinn had to stay and be put under lights and be supplemented after every feeding with formula. She was very alarmist and put Clint and I on the defense. We had not even spoken to the ped that was looking after her. After arguing with the nurse, the NICU nurse practitioner came in and explained things and put our minds at ease. The next day her bili levels continued to rise so she was admitted to the NICU where they started her on an IV and triple light therapy. I was able to stay in my hospital room as a guest and visit Quinn every three hours to feed her. I seriously don't think I got more than 2 or 3 hours of sleep TOTAL a night the entire time I stayed in the hospital. After two days in the NICU Quinn was discharged home. We were so ecstatic to have her home after almost a week in the hospital. Her two older sisters love her and always want to hold her. So far she is a calm baby and takes it all in stride.

Today at her ped appt she was 8 pounds 11 ounces, with her clothes on. So she is gaining for sure! Last night she cluster fed from around 930-1230 and then slept until 5 am!

Firsts

The night Quinn came home from the hospital her cord stump fell off. We treated her to her first bath the next day with the help of her big sister. She is already growing way too fast, and it has been a week and two more baths since these were taken. (she snoozed through the one last night)

We are slowly adjusting to life with three children. Quinn is the perfect baby so far. All she does is eat and sleep (and poop). Unfortunately, she has her first cold already. Today is she has a lot of yellow/orange nasal congestion and eye drainage in one eye. It is pretty pitiful. Tomorrow Clint returns to work and life returns to normal. Well, as normal as can be with a newborn. It is the two year old I am worried about, she won't leave the baby alone. We are all in love with miss Quinn!

Quinn Grace Hilley

We are beyond thrilled to announce the birth of our third daughter Quinn Grace Hilley. She made her early debut on January 27, 2010 at 340 am, one week before her scheduled C-section and two weeks before her due date. She weighed a healthy 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. Her older sisters love her and we cannot wait to have her home so they can hold her all the time.

Unfortunately, we are still at the hospital almost a week later. Quinn was admitted to the NICU on Saturday due to Jaundice. We are hoping to go home tomorrow.
